Il Mio Caro

The first symphony that Josué ever composed, arranged, and recorded – is “Il Mio Caro.” Composed in 2000 as a piano sonata in New York City, it was in Eastern-Europe, in 2016, where access to full-time, high-level, Classically-trained musicians inspired Josué to re-arrange this masterpiece for a symphony. In a recent interview, Josué shared, “The trumpet proved most stubbornly challenging; I needed it to lay somewhere between Jazz and symphonic; the celli, violins, and violas hold this arrangement up in the air, so getting the trumpet to keep it grounded was not easy to accomplish!”

Suspendido

From the first several seconds, “Suspendido” suspends us in a cloud of marvelous delight. In a 2021 interview, Josué shared, “By far, this was one of the most challenging arrangements primarily because almost all of the piano is improvised; plenty of takes were required to get it just right.”

Waltz of the Enchanted

A favorite among professional, international Ballroom/Standard choreographers and dancers, “Waltz of the Enchanted” was composed and recorded in January 2019 originally for Kizomba-Tango dancers. This symphony, arranged in the nova-clásica style, features a beautiful, thick layer of violins, violas, cellos, and double-basses over light Afro-Cuban percussion – with a gentle touch of Jazz-trumpet.“

Wings in Heaven

Composed and recorded in May 2021 in memory of Josué’s father – legendary Afro-Cuban and Jazz bassist Alfonso Panamá, this symphony was arranged specifically for a film score. “Wings in Heaven” is a reference to flying to heaven’s gates.

Peace of Mind

Composed and arranged by genius symphony composer, arranger, and legendary bassist Alfonso Panamá (1934-2021) in the late 1960s, “Peace of Mind” was originally arranged as a Bolero-Contemporáneo (today, referred to as Nova-Clásica style) with lyrics. This particular arrangement that you’re listening to is a symphony recorded in Vilnius, Lithuania, and in Gdynia, Poland – for a film score.

Memorias

The 7th symphony by Josué Mastroianni, “Memorias” was composed and recorded in October and November of 2022 in Eastern-Europe! With 35 musicians from Poland, Germany, Austria, Czech, Hungary, Bulgaria, Lithuania, UK, and Latvia, “Memorias” marks the first time that Josué has featured four double-basses (instead of 2) as well as six violas (instead of 1 or 2), and the first time including a cimbasso (it’s extremely difficult to find a musician who plays cimbasso). As a new film score, this composition is uniquely arranged with melodic repetition and a perfect mixture of a piano and a symphony orchestra:

Volando

Composed and arranged in only six hours in 2021 – and is the inspiration for the short film by the same title, this is the newest piece, which consists of only piano, double-bass, cello, viola, violin, and flute, and was recorded on the Baltic Sea in Poland – with the flute recorded in Prague, Czech Republic.

La D’Inspira

Partially composed in 2016 in Gdynia, Poland, this piece sat on the shelf for five years until after the auditions for the short film “Before You Were Born” began in 2021; it was the script that inspired the composing of “La D’Inspira” to continue – and it was the recording of the song which inspired last-minute changes to the script.

La Esperanza

Completely improvised, this was composed during the Spring of 2018 in Gdynia, Poland simply for the capturing of images and video for this demo. The inspiration behind this was new energy, hope, connections with people, artistic collaborations, and creative vision.
